The good
An overall PR for me.
I moved up 700 positions after my dismal swim.
I did not drown in the monstrous chop on Lake Coeur d’Alene
My family were the best cheering team on the course. They were hilarious.
The bad
My worst ever IM swim time.
I missed my goal time of 11:30
Ran into some stomach issues after discovering that my Hammer Gel was “off”. Gross!
It poured rain for the last 5 miles which was particularly nasty out at the turn around point. They started issuing mylar blankets for the runners because it was so cold.
The wind followed us everywhere on the bike. It was omnipresent.

Don, I’m sorry you didn’t make your time goal but it sounds to be like you made the most of the day you were given AND you sneaked out a PR!! CONGRATULATIONS! Enjoy the rest before you smash this new PR at IMC!
Thank you very much Karen. It was a tough day but I think I was able to salvage it. I hope you are enjoying your time in Oz.
What a comeback! Truly awesome…
Thank you Miss Wilma
Almost 12 hours without stopping? I didn’t know the human body was able! Congrats despite the swim.
Thanks man. Although I am sure that you and Serge could do 12 hours on the Lido Deck
My punishment for too much time on FaceCrack is that I totally missed that you were doing this race! Congratulations on a PR – well done, sir! It was such a tough day out there.
It was nasty out there on the course. The water was so rough that I think that I swallowed half the lake and had to pee 3 times in my wetsuit.
A phenomenal effort gained a phenomenal result, especially considering the conditions. Be proud of that PR, Don.
It is amazing what I would do for a Rolling Rock and a Big Mac meal.
Great Job Don! In a few years I will be asking for Ironman advice! I want the P2 soooo bad, I may settle for the P1!
Thanks Jay. It will be great to see you out on the long course.
