Movember Craziness
One of the most inspirational persons that I ever met was my Psych 101 professor. He was a whacked out refugee from 1960′s Kentucky who escaped the draft by relocating to small town Canada. We did all kinds of crazy experiments, like all those “trust” group excersizes and such. My favourite discussion that we explored was that of the concept of cognitive dissonance.
Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term which describes the uncomfortable tension that comes from holding two conflicting thoughts at the same time. More precisely, it is the perception of incompatibility between two cognitions, where “cognition” is defined as any element of knowledge, including attitude, emotion, belief, or behavior.
I believe that I am the poster child for cognitive dissonance. Perhaps a CD telethon is in the works. Woo Hoo. Dollars for Dissonance!
I am also continually inspired by best friend Helene, to whom I dedicate this blogoshperic journey.
I am GOD’s Allah’s Supreme Being someone’s life long experiment in cognitive dissonance. And happy for it. My existence is never boring at least not for me.
I am a seven time Ironman competitor. I find it rewarding to use my races as a vehicle to raise money for charities. I have also raised thousands of dollars for HIV/AIDS support services by completing the AIDS Lifecycle on 3 occasions. In 2008, I participated in the Ride 2 Survive which is a 400 km cycling event in a single day that raised ~$250K to fight cancer.
